Slovakia vignette validity: when it starts and when it ends

The Slovakia vignette is valid from the day you choose when buying it. The 1-day vignette is valid only on that calendar day until 23:59:59 – not for 24 hours from purchase. The 10, 30 and 365-day vignettes are valid for the corresponding number of days including the first day. The start date can be the day of payment or a later day, at most 60 days after payment and at the same time no later than 31 December of the year concerned.
How long each vignette is valid
The rules are laid down in Section 3 of the Slovak Motorway Vignette Act No. 488/2013 Z. z. The day you choose when buying is the first day of validity:

The 1-day vignette: a calendar day, not 24 hours
With the 1-day vignette, the chosen day is also the only day of validity. If you buy it at 21:00 for the current day, it is valid only until midnight, i.e. for less than three hours. If you are planning a night drive past midnight, you need another vignette for the following day. In that case the 10-day vignette for €10.80 is the better choice, as it is cheaper than two 1-day vignettes (2 × €8.10 = €16.20).
Buying in advance: up to 60 days
For all vignette types the start of validity is set at the time of purchase. It can be the day of payment or any later day, but no later than 60 days after payment. This allows you to buy the vignette several weeks before your holiday. If your plans change and the vignette has not yet started, you can correct the start date; this is not possible retroactively. The edition rule: 31 December at the latest
Slovak vignettes are sold in annual editions. The start date may not be later than the last day of validity of the edition concerned, which is 31 December of that calendar year. In practice this means:
- If you buy a 2026-edition vignette on, for example, 15 November 2026, the 60-day period would extend into January 2027. The latest possible start date, however, is 31 December 2026.
- A vignette starting in 2027 can only be bought in the 2027 edition.
A vignette bought in December is also valid in January
If a 10-day or 30-day vignette was bought in December, it is also valid in January of the following year until the end of its validity. Examples:
- A 10-day vignette starting on 28 December 2026 is valid until 6 January 2027.
- A 30-day vignette starting on 15 December 2026 is valid until 13 January 2027.
The 365-day vignette is always valid for a full 365 days from the chosen day, regardless of the end of the calendar year.
When the 2027 edition goes on sale
The Slovak National Motorway Company (NDS) launched sales of the 2026 edition at the beginning of November 2025, one month earlier than in previous years. The validity is shown on the payment confirmation. You can also check it on eznamka.sk in the validity check section (Kontrola platnosti diaľničnej známky) or in the eZnamka mobile app – simply enter the licence plate and the country of registration.

Is the 1-day vignette valid for 24 hours?
No. It is valid only on the chosen calendar day until 23:59:59, regardless of the time of purchase.
How far in advance can I buy the vignette?
The start of validity can be no later than 60 days after payment, and no later than 31 December of the year of the edition concerned.
Is a 10-day vignette from December also valid in January?
Yes. 10-day and 30-day vignettes bought in December are valid in January of the following year until the end of their validity.
Can I change the start date?
Yes, as long as the vignette has not yet started. Once validity has begun, the date can no longer be changed.
