Which Slovakia vignette to choose: examples and price comparison

The best-value Slovakia vignette depends on the number of days you actually drive on toll sections. For one day, the 1-day vignette for €8.10 is enough. From two days of driving within ten days, the 10-day vignette for €10.80 is already cheaper. The 365-day vignette for €90 pays off if you would otherwise need at least six 30-day or nine 10-day vignettes in a year.

Examples
Day trip
If you drive to Bratislava, for example, and return on the same day, the 1-day vignette for €8.10 is sufficient. It is valid on the chosen calendar day until 23:59:59. If your return might extend past midnight, the 10-day vignette is the safer choice.
Weekend
Travelling on Friday and returning on Sunday, you would need two 1-day vignettes for €16.20, or three for €24.30 if you drive on all three days. The 10-day vignette for €10.80 covers the whole weekend and is cheaper from just two days of driving.
Two-week holiday
For a 14-day holiday, for instance in the High Tatras, one 10-day vignette is not enough. Two 10-day vignettes would cost €21.60, whereas the 30-day vignette costs €17.10 and covers the whole stay with time to spare.
Transit to Poland or Hungary
If you simply cross Slovakia within one day, for example from the Austrian border at Jarovce towards Poland, the 1-day vignette is sufficient. If you return the same way on a different day within ten days, the 10-day vignette for €10.80 is cheaper than two 1-day vignettes for €16.20. Regular commuting
If you commute to work on Slovak motorways or use them repeatedly during the year, the 365-day vignette for €90 is good value. Twelve 30-day vignettes would cost €205.20.
When the annual vignette pays off
- five 30-day vignettes cost €85.50, six cost €102.60 – from six, the annual vignette is cheaper,
- eight 10-day vignettes cost €86.40, nine cost €97.20 – from nine, the annual vignette is cheaper,
- eleven 1-day vignettes cost €89.10, twelve cost €97.20.
The 365-day vignette is valid for 365 days from the chosen day, not until the end of the calendar year. You can therefore buy it at any time of the year. Details in the guide Slovakia vignette validity.
Points to consider when choosing
- Overlaps: if you buy a new vignette while the old one is still valid, set the start to the day after the old one expires. With overlapping validity for the same vehicle, you can apply for a refund of the vignette bought later, but it is simpler to avoid this.
- Trailer: if the combination exceeds 3.5 tonnes, you also need a vignette for the trailer. See Slovakia vignette by vehicle type.
- December: 10-day and 30-day vignettes bought in December are also valid in January until the end of their validity.

Yes. The 10-day vignette costs €10.80, two 1-day vignettes cost €16.20.
When does the 30-day vignette pay off?
When you use the motorway over a period longer than 10 days but shorter than a month. It is cheaper than two 10-day vignettes (€17.10 compared with €21.60).
Does the annual vignette have to start on 1 January?
No. You choose the start day yourself, and the vignette is valid for 365 days including that day.
Which vignette do most drivers buy?
According to NDS, almost half of the vignettes sold in 2025 were 10-day vignettes.
